‘Amazon Mobile’ is the new iPhone application launched by Amazon.com on the Apple App Store – it lets users browse and purchase items from the e-commerce site.
The free application includes a feature known as ‘Amazon Remembers’, which makes it possible to take a picture of a product and then send it to the online retailer, which will try to match it with products in its inventory.
The pictures taken are automatically uploaded to Amazon, which tries to find the same or similar items. When users receive the results, they can purchase items immediately or store them for later in their Amazon accounts.
Amazon Mobile is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch from the Apple App Store. The software is meant to simplify shopping on the iPhone and the iPod Touch, which can access the Web through a Wi-Fi hot spot. Though the application offers access to other retailers - like Target and Macy’s - its features, which include “one-click” shopping, are focused on Amazon.
In a statement, Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile, said: “We designed the Amazon app to be a quick and easy way for iPhone and iPod Touch users to shop, browse, and buy with Amazon.com.”
Other than the ‘Amazon Remembers’ feature, the application works much like the actual Web site. Users can browse items offered by Amazon and its third-party retailers, and purchase things right from the iPhone - wish lists, existing shopping carts, order history, and other features are also available through the application.
