Ofcom, the UK's media regulator desires to break the domination of BSkyB over the pay TV market by forcing it to offer its premium football and Hollywood blockbusters to other broadcasters at a massive discount.
Ofcom is of the view that the pay-TV market is being deformed by BSkyB's exclusive ownership rights.
On the condition of anonymity, a person said, "There's no doubt that the pay TV market is dominated by Sky over here".
Jeremy Darroch, Sky's chief executive is getting ready to appeal in the "Competition Appeal Tribunal" against the recommendation to sell its key channels to rivals for almost a third less than now.
According to Ofcom, exclusive ownership rights provide BSkyB with an ability to charge extraordinary fee from its customers and rivals.
Ofcom suggests BSkyB should charge £16.98 instead of £23.40 for a package of movie channels and Sky Sports 1 and 2 wholesale, from its rivals such as Virgin Media.
Speaking on the topic, Lawyer Howard Cartlidge said that the current move of the regulator was a disturbing barrier for BSkyB.
The recommendations made by Ofcom are likely to be forced on BSkyB by the begining of next year.
