Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne says the company “open to” retail and/or institutional bond
Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne

As per the reports of the news agency Ansa, on Saturday, Sergio Marchionne - Chief Executive Officer of the Italian automaker Fiat - said that the issue of a bond for retail or institutional investors, or both, is under consideration by Fiat.

At an event in Venice, Marchionne was responding to a query about Fiat's willingness to issue a bond for the retail or institutional market, when he said: "We are open to doing either, or a mix. With the interest rates that are around at the moment, it could be a big deal for everyone."

However, on Friday, Marchionne had rebuffed reports about Fiat's likelihood of launching a bond of nearly 1 billion euros saying that they were "rumors," and had further added: "We will announce it when we announce it."

With regard to Fiat's supposed plans pertaining to production at its PSA Peugeot Citroen-joint venture plant near Valenciennes in France, Marchionne said that discussing about the plan would be "premature."

Marchionne also said that Fiat is working out a plan for the U. S. carmaker Chrysler's product offer - after having taken a 20 percent stake in the company - and is also on the verge of signing a deal with China's Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group, talks about which have been on for more than a year.
