Broadcom’s offer for Emulex soars to $912 million

Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. on Monday lifted its unsolicited offer up by nearly 20 percent to $912 million from its original bid of $764 million to acquire Emulex Corp.

Regarding new development, Costa Mesa-based Emulex Corp.’s board of directors issued a statement to inform that they would review the terms of the revised offer from Broadcom.

Scott McGregor, chief executive of the wireless chipmaker wrote in a letter to Emulex Chairman Paul Folino and said it was the best offer the company planned to make.

According to Brent Bracelin, Pacific Crest Securities analyst, the fresh bid has put the ball in Emulex's court.

It is worth mentioning here that Emulex had declined Broadcom's earlier offer in May as inadequate.

A lawsuit was also filed by Emulex earlier this month in Orange County Superior Court seeking to block Broadcom's hostile bid.

Before the Broadcom’s announcement, Emulex shares soared 26 cents to $10.88. In after-hours trading, the shares of the company gained again 30 cents in after-hours trading to $11.18.
