It's "software unlocking" time already for the newly-released IPhone 3G S! The first person who unlocked the original iPhone - 'GeoHot' or George Hotz - has been at work again and successfully too; he has released a jailbreak for the newest iPhone!
While the iPhone Dev Team await the v3.1 software release from Apple, before "officially" making the hack accessible, GeoHot, a Dev team member, has moved ahead with the jailbreak and put it out for download. Though at present, the Purple Ra1n tool is available for Windows users only, Hotz says that a Mac OS X version will also be out before long.
According to Hotz, the new "awesome" utility would enable iPhone 3G S users to download, install, and utilize the applications of their choice, outside the control of both Apple and AT&T.
In his characteristic blog post, referring to his new tool and the so-called "holes," Hotz wrote: "Normally I don't make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, what's up with waiting until 3.1? That isn't how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes; we find new holes. It isn't worth waiting because you might have the 'last' hole in the iPhone."
