Fire at Fisher Plaza interrupts Internet service

A short-lived fire that started at around 11:15 PDT at Seattle's Fisher Plaza late Thursday night caused internet service disruptions to several companies, affecting their businesses adversely.

Vice president of operations for Fisher Communications Inc., Rob Dunlop, informed that the problems at the Fisher Plaza data center started in an electrical room at approximately 11 p.m. Thursday night.

The cause of the fire remains yet un-known.

Seattle's mail systems, Swedish Hospital's internal IT systems, Pacific Science Center's site, local TV and radio station KOMO, all were affected by the interruption of the service.

Internet access to Verizon Communications’ customers and Authorize.net Holdings Inc. was also affected.

Authorize.net Holdings Inc. provides credit card services to more than 238,000 merchants.

However, the long list of affected businesses in Seattle has revealed the significance of the Fisher vault.

Fisher Plaza informed restoration work to provide normal service to its customers was in progress.
