Leaders of G8, group of eight industrialized nations, are all set to meet on July 9 in L'Aquila, Italy to set a target to slash greenhouse gases by 80 percent by 2050.
This time, the U.S. and China are also supporting the idea of hacking emissions. As per America the average worldwide temperature shouldn’t soar more than 2 degrees Celsius by 2020.
Earlier, ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair also appealed G8 nations to strike short-term climate targets via Environment-friendly technologies.
The draft circulated by nongovernmental organizations said, “This is a crucial year for taking rapid and effective global action to combat climate change.”
However, environmentalists doubt America’s intentions in hitting the short-term emissions targets.
The agenda includes discussions on cutting carbon dioxide emissions over the short and long term by using lower-carbon power sources, greater energy efficiency, ending deforestation.
Environmentalists want to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by between 50 percent and 85 percent by 2050.
It is also informed that U.S. President Barack Obama will discuss a new climate treaty to substitute the Kyoto Protocol, which will run out in 2012.
Moreover, in December, approximately 200 countries are planning to meet in Copenhagen to discuss terms and conditions for a new pact to control rising temperatures and sea levels.
