Chrysler Group appoints five new directors

The Chrysler Group, the U.S. automaker run by Fiat SpA announced the appointment of five members to its board of directors. Now the Chrysler Group LLC is equipped with nine-member panel.

The first meeting of the board is expected to take place on July 29.

The list of new members of board include Douglas Steenland, former chief executive of Northwest Airlines; George F.J. Gosbee, chairman and president of Tristone Capital Inc.; Scott Stuart, a founding partner of Sageview Capital LLC; Ronald L. Thompson, chairman of the board of trustees for Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association; and Stephen Wolf, chairman of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co.

In Chrysler’s nine-member board, three directors are appointed by Fiat, one by the Canadian government and one by the UAW trust and four by the U.S. government.

Speaking on the topic, Acting Chairman C. Robert Kidder said, "The formal creation of our board of directors is another important step toward building a viable Chrysler Group for the long term." 

It may be noted here that earlier in June, Chrysler emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy under a partnership with Fiat.

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is the CEO of the new Chrysler.

Mr. Sergio Marchionne aims at reinforcing three brands of the company viz. Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler.
