A fresh report by StatCounter reveals that Microsoft Internet Explorer, which spent long time enjoying browser dominance, has lost more than 11 percent of its users.
Share of the browser market has fallen for versions 6 and 7 over the past year. However, Internet Explorer 8 is gradually rising over the past few months. It stood at 15.4 percent by the first week of July.
International market share of Internet Explorer 7 plunged to 33.75 percent in June from 43.45 percent in May this year. Share for Internet Explorer 6 was recorded at 8.74 percent over July's first few days, down from 11.47 percent in May.
Fresh report by StatCounter also reveals that Firefox 3.0 has expanded its market share, while Safari, Chrome and other browsers are there with single-digit territory.
Firefox 3.5, equipped with new features like extensive support for HTML 5, faster speeds than Firefox 3.0, and support for JSON and Web worker threads, took a bite from Microsoft Internet Explorer.
According to the CEO of StatCounter, Aodhan Cullen, Microsoft Internet Explorer had to face a tough competition in the browser market as a result of Firefox's new version.
