Senior vice president Steven Sinofsky, the man who led the engineering teams on both Windows 7 and Office 2007 has been promoted by Microsoft to become the president of the new Windows division.
Up to now, Steven Sinofsky was running the Windows business jointly with Bill Veghte.
Under this latest reorganization, Bill Veghte will handle a leadership role Microsoft intends to declare later this year.
The blue-eyed boy of Microsoft, Sinofsky put Windows back on track after Vista's disappointing performance.
Speaking his mind, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said, "Steven Sinofsky has demonstrated the ability to lead large teams that deliver great products."
It may be noted here that Microsoft has plans to unwrap Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 three months from now.
Steven Sinofsky will now also shoulder the responsibility of Internet Explorer, which has seen its star fading in recent years.
