Kolcraft recalls 1 million “Play yards” on ‘falling’ risk complaints
Chicago, United States

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) statement, the Chicago-based Kolcraft Enterprises Inc has recalled 1 million "Kolcraft Traveliní Tot Play yards," prompted by complaints about a 'falling' risk associated with the unexpected unlatching of the side rails.

The model numbers of the recalled play yard units have been listed in the CPSC statement. Printed on a white sticker, these models numbers are pasted the base of each of the items.

The CPSC's Wednesday statement said that the consumers should discontinue the use of the mentioned play yards, as well as similar items sold under the other names - including Carterís, Sesame Street, Jeep, Contours, Care Bear and Eric Carle.

Kolcraft has reportedly received 347 complaints about the sudden collapse of the sides of the play yards, causing 21 injuries, including bruises and bumps, along with a case of concussion as well.

The play yards, manufactured in China, Spain and Italy, were also sold online by Babies R Us, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Sears, Target and other US stores from January 2000 to January 2009.

Earlier too, in September 2007, a few play yards' models, which are also listed in this recall, were recalled because of a strangulation hazard caused by the changing table, which had caused the death of a 10-month-old child.
