Bing raises, Google still dominates US search market

Online Web site measurement researcher Hitwise said that Bing, Microsoft Corp.'s search engine posted higher search-engine growth on a weekly basis in June than its three main rivals.

Microsoft’s search engine Bing’s market share soared to 6.63 percent by the end of the month, up from 3.4 percent in the first week of the month on the weekly basis.

However, Mountain View giant, Google Inc, still dominates the US search market as it accounted for 74 percent of all US searches conducted during the four weeks ended June 27. Last year, Google Inc accounted for 69 percent of US searches.

Market share of Ask dropped to 3.2 percent.

Microsoft’s another rival, Yahoo Inc. accounted for 16 percent of searches in June, slightly up from May.

According to Hitwise, popularity of longer search queries has jumped up.

It is worth mentioning here that a Recent ComScore survey also revealed that Bing's searches have risen.

Nonetheless, Google's dominance over the market is not endangered.
