Pew Research Center

Long ago George Bernard Shaw had said, "Science is always simple and profound. It is only the half truth that is dangerous."

But fresh poll conducted by Pew Research Center signifies that only 27 % of the Americans see science as the greatest achievement of the nation as compared with 47 % in May 1999 survey.

Common populace of America differs widely with scientists over the issues pertaining climate change and evolution theory.

Nearly all scientists accept that human and other living things evolved by natural selection, but only a third of the public agrees with this idea.

About 84 % of scientists believe that global warming is the result of human activity, but less than half of the public accepts this fact.

Speaking on the topic, Scott Keeter of the Pew Research Center said,

"The public and the scientists have very different views on many different issues, including the science of evolution and climate change."

Federal funding for embryonic stem cell research was favored by 93 % of scientists as compared to 58 % of public.

The study found that men possesses more favorable outlook about science than women.

The research included 2,533 scientists and 2,001 public members.
