Ryan Reynolds, 32, who recently played Deadpool opposite Hugh Jackman in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, according to Hollywood industry magazine, Variety, will now be taking on the role of the Green Lantern in a new comic book adaptation.
Reynolds, currently starring opposite Sandra Bullock in the US box office topper ‘The Proposal’, will be the only male actor to have played heroes for comic rivals Marvel and DC, if the new deal does go ahead.
The film to be directed by Martin Campbell, who did the same for Casino Royale in 2006, screen-tested both Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) and music star Justin Timberlake for the role of the super-hero armed with a magical ring.
As well, Reynolds, who married actress Scarlett Johansson in 2008, has also been signed to reprise his as Deadpool in a spin-off of 20th Century Fox’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, a super hero spawned by DC’s rival, Marvel Comics. He is also in talks for another DC Comics lead role of ‘The Flash’.
