Microsoft claims Bing sees 8% rise in users since launch

Microsoft Corp., contender to Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc., has released statistics showing its search engine Bing recorded an 8 percent increase in unique users over the period of June.

Microsoft further claimed that the number of customers who said they would recommend Bing has become doubled.

The fresh statistics also includes claims of threefold rise in site visits to Bing Shopping as well as 5.42 percent amplification in dealings to Bing cashback from the date of Bing's launch

The software giant re-launched its search engine business in the name of Bing in early June.

According to Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the online audience business group, Bing has brought success to advertisers also. For instance, TigerDirect, an electronics retailer has recorded a three times increase in sales and a wireless provider got 28 percent more clicks since the launch of the Bing.

As per figures released by StatCounter, Bing had captured around 8.17 percent market share in June in the U. S., far behind Google and Yahoo, which enjoyed 78.48 percent and 10.64 percent market share in June.

Bing is still a small player in the search engine business, having just 3.27 percent of worldwide market share in June. Google stands first with 89.8 percent.
