According to Microsoft's press release, the sales of the Xbox 360 and its games trumped those of Sony's PlayStation 3 during Black Friday by a three-to-one margin. The company attributed the sales to the decision to cut the console's price to $199.
The Redmond computer giant said system sales for the Xbox 360 saw a 25 percent increase over the Thanksgiving weekend; also adding that sales in Europe were up as much as 400 percent.
In a statement, Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft, said: "Record Black Friday sales in the U. S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox Live members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009."
Moreover, the company's official press release also trumpets the Xbox 360's "highest game attach rate of any console." Citing "key Microsoft titles, such as Gears of War 2, Fable II, and Lips", the release claims they are on a "record pace" though it fails to offer firm sales numbers for any of them.
