U.S. foreclosures soars 15% in first half of 2009

In the first half of 2009, around 15 percent of the U. S. households reached the brink of losing their homes.

Soaring joblessness rate made people unable to reimburse their monthly mortgage bills.

According to an estimate by RealtyTrac Inc, foreclosure listing service, as many as 1.5 million homes were directly affected by the foreclosure crisis.

Foreclosures are spreading even after $50 billion assistance by Obama administration in subsidies.

The U. S. witnessed 33% jump in the foreclosure filings in June, up 5% from May.

In June, 336,000 plus households were given at least one foreclosure-related notice.

Nevada recorded highest number of foreclosures in the first half of 2009, with 1 out of every 16 households with a loan got a foreclosure filing, followed by Arizona.
