Coldplay Sued For Plagiarism

Guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani has filed a lawsuit against British rock band Coldplay in the Los Angeles federal court, over copy right infringement, seeking damages for 'any and all profits', as Satriani claims 'substantial original portions' of his 2004 song 'If I Could Fly' have been used by Coldplay in their hit single Vida La Vida - No. 1 in UK and USA, and nominated for Song Of The Year at the Grammy awards scheduled for February.

Back in June, a band called Creaky Boards made a similar claim, only they didn't sue, rather made a cheeky video, using the opportunity to capture some attention, though they later retracted their statement, when it was refuted. However, while it is doubtful whether Coldplay ever heard the Creaky Boards' song, Joe Satriani is a well known figure, especially among guitarists, having played with Mick Jagger and Deep Purple. And, listening to 'If I Could Fly' and 'Vida La Vida', one certainly finds the melodies very similar.

The British rock band has not commented on the issue, so far.
