In its recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Bank of America Corp. said that three more of its board directors - John T. Collins, William Barnet III and Gary L. Countryman - have resigned. The bank said that while Collins' resignation was effective July 29, Barnet and Countryman decided to call it quits on July 31.
With the most recent resignations of the three directors of the Bank of America board, the total number of boardroom departures at the bank has reached ten thus far in 2009. As such, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank is now left with only 13 directors.
All the three men to quit lately were directors at FleetBoston Financial Corp., when it was taken over by Bank of America in 2004; and had, ever since, been serving on the bank's board.
While Collins, 62, is CEO of a venture capital firm - The Collins Group - in Boston; Barnet, 66, is the Chairman and CEO of a real estate and investments firm - The Barnet Co - and the Mayor of Spartanburg, S.C.; and Countryman, 69, is the Chairman emeritus and a director of a Boston-based insurance company - Liberty Mutual Group.
In its regulatory filing, Bank of America said: "Each director's decision to resign was not as a result of any disagreement with the corporation or its management."
