That LED-backlit LCDs are currently ruling the roost in the HDTV arena has become more evident from the latest LED offerings from LG as well as Samsung! While LG recently unveiled its two new HDTV lines - the SL80 and SL90 -, Samsung has introduced its new 8500 LED series, comprising two models scheduled for September launch.
LG displayed its new models at the company's fifth annual summer line show in New York City. The prototype SL90 model, which was introduced by LG's display team, had a few odd 'rough edges,' but still appeared to be a potentially-perfect candidate for transforming the design scenario for LCD HDTVs.
Meanwhile, the 47SL90 displayed at the show featured a Super IPS LCD panel, with a seamless, first-of-its-kind edge-to-edge glass. The striking, elegantly spread out, glass coating of the panel also boasted a slender - less than an inch - bezel.
Meanwhile, Samsung's forthcoming 8500 LED series' models - the $3,599.99-priced 46-inch UN46B8500 and the $4,499.99-priced 55-inch UN55B8500 - boast a 7,000,000:1 ratio, and offer a 2ms response time and 240Hz refresh rates.
Furthermore, both the sets feature Samsung's Internet@TV - Content Service, which uses the Yahoo Widget platform for diverse networked content including weather and sports updates, Twitter, and YouTube. Equipped with the Medi@2.0, the 8500 TVs use the Ethernet connection to enable users to stream media from their home-network PCs to the TVs!
