By incorporating a new feature into its Voice telephony service, Google is making an attempt to help US military staffers stationed overseas to remain in touch with their family and friends.
Going by the information brought forth on Google's official blog, written by U. S. Army Sergeant Dale Sweetnam, Google Voice accounts will be made available to soldiers on a priority basis. All the serving military staffers having .mil addresses will receive Google Voice invites within 24 hours of the submission of a request by them.
The newly-added feature of the Voice service, especially launched for the serving military staffers posted overseas, will not only allow the soldiers to make calls to their family and friends, but also help them send and receive voice messages online.
While the military staffers-specific Voice service allows the soldiers to link both VoIP and mobile devices via a single number, Google has recently extended the singular service to BlackBerry and Android devices too.
Commenting on the benefits of the service, Sergeant Sweetnam said in the guest blog: "For servicemen and women who are constantly on the move, having a single number and an easy way to retrieve messages from loved ones can be invaluable." He added: "I know when I return to combat; Google Voice will help make life a little more manageable!"
