Trade Union Congress proposes to ban high heels at workplace
Trade Union Congress

Different scientific studies have proved beneficial as well as harmful effects of wearing high heels. Recently Trade Union Congress has proposed a motion against wearing of high-heeled shoes at work.

Comprising of mainly male members, it cited various health problems like long-term foot problems, such as blisters, corns and calluses, and also serious foot, knee and back pain and damaged joints as main reason behind proposed motion.

The proposed motion states that women should wear shoes with an inch heel limit, which were termed "sensible shoes". The motion is to be debated at next month's conference.

The motion, tabled by the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, states: "Congress believes high heels may look glamorous on the Hollywood catwalks but are completely inappropriate for the day-today working environment."

Along with an important item of the attire, high heels are also confidence booster as heels make women feel sexier and look smarter. Women with short height wear them to look taller. Moreover wearing heels is a personal choice of women. The recent proposal of banning heels at workplace by TUC has been criticized by women.

Tory MP Nadine Dorries said: 'The TUC need to get real, stop using overtly sexist tactics by discussing women's stilettos to divert attention away from Labour chaos.'
