Going by a recorded message and a memo from Delta Air Lines Inc CEO Richard Anderson, to the employees of the Atlanta-based carrier, additional management and administrative jobs would likely be slashed by the airline.
Though the Thursday message from Anderson made no mention of the number of jobs that Delta intends cutting, the CEO said the cuts come over and above the 2,000 management and administrative positions eliminated over the last year-and-a-half.
The reasons cited for the lay-offs' decision included the plunging revenues and steep drop in passenger demand faced by the world's biggest airline operator. Anderson reinforced Delta's need to be more aggressive at cutting costs in its administrative and management budgets.
Anderson, as well as President Ed Bastian, stated in the memo: "We will accomplish this through budget reductions, including vendors and professional services.
Unfortunately, because of the severity of this economic downturn, we also must eliminate additional salaried positions beyond the management and administrative jobs already reduced over the last 18 months."
In a recent regulatory filing Delta had said that, as of June 30, there are 82,968 full-time employees working for the carrier and its subsidiaries. As such, figuratively speaking, the company's revenue, which fell more than $3 billion for the 2009 first-half, can be translated to over $40,000 in lost revenue per employee!
