Royal Opera House to stage world’s first 'Twitter' opera

One of the world's most prominent opera companies, the Royal Opera House in London, is going to stage an opera created through Twitter, a social networking site.

People have been invited to submit their “Tweets” online not exceeding 140 characters, which will form the new libretto.

Opera House said it wanted more people to involve in the creative side of opera.

Director of ROH2, Alison Duthie, said, "We wanted to engage with audiences in the creation of an opera."

The Twitter opera features a man awaiting rescue in a tower after he is kidnapped by a flock of birds. A talking ginger cat will also be seen requesting people not to stop feeding the pigeons because pigeons are his food.

The opera will be set to original music by composer Helen Porter.

It was informed that excerpts would be performed at the Royal Opera House in September.
