Paulson & Co buys 168 million shares of Bank of America

US hedge-fund firm, Paulson & Co. purchased Bank of America Corp's 168 million shares in Q2, becoming the fourth largest shareholder of the lender.

Regulatory filing made by the company on Wednesday valued Paulson's stake at $2.7 billion in the bank of America Corp on Wednesday's closing prices at $15.93 a share. Paulson bought Regions Financial Corp's 35 million shares, becoming the second largest share holder after State Street.

Moreover, Capital One Financial Corp's 17 million shares were also bought by Paulson.

Paulson & Co. regulatory filing also reveals that the fund bought stakes in Anglogold Ashanti, Gold Fields Ltd, drug-maker Boston Scientific Corp and Sun Microsystems Inc, a server & software-maker company.

Shares of Bank of America soared 2.9%, to close at $16.39, while Regions Financial soared 5.4% to close at $5.08 in the after hour trading. Capital One saw an increase of
41 cents to close at $34.20.
