According to reports, Facebook is currently testing a streamlined version of its popular social networking service - the 'Facebook Lite'! A select number of beta testers have been invited by the company to test the new update.
The invites extended by Facebook, to the beta testers, included the message that it was still working on developing a faster, simpler version of Facebook - which was not a finished product as yet and had "plenty of kinks" that need to be worked out. The message requested the invitees to test 'Facebook Lite' and send in their feedback on the development thus far.
Detailing about the new version, the Facebook site said: "Similar to the Facebook experience you get on your mobile phones, Facebook 'Lite' is a fast-loading, simplified version of Facebook that enables people to make comments, accept Friend requests, write on people's Walls, and look at photos and Status updates."
The 'Facebook Lite' version is especially intended for narrowband users in emerging markets, particularly in Eastern Asia.
Though Facebook had planned to test out the new service mainly in countries with early users of the Facebook service, it accidentally extended the invites to a much wider beta net. To rectify the mistake, Facebook has decided that "People who are not part of the test and are trying to access 'Lite' will be directed to Facebook. com as usual."
