Mobile communications are in for a 'big time' change in the times to come - what with Verizon Wireless completing the initial testing of its 4G wireless service on Friday in Boston and Seattle! Verizon's latest initiative is based on its 'Long Term Evolution' (LTE) network, which marks a full-fledged IP-based mobile communications' experience.
With unified communications already blurring the differences between computers and mobile phones, Verizon's LTE-4G connectivity will further hasten the progression of the mobile phone - from essentially a handy voice communication device to a fully functioning 'portable' and 'multipurpose' platform that can be used for communications, entertainment, and productivity.
While Verizon and other leading mobile providers, like AT&T, have been bragging about the 3G network for the last couple of years, the recent advances in mobile networking have fundamentally outpaced the expansion of bandwidth, thereby necessitating the evolution of 4G.
Equipped with the 700 MHz spectrum, Verizon's recently-tested service, with LTE/4G speeds, will revolutionize the streaming video capabilities of mobile devices; and the increased bandwidth would provide mobile users will the additional ability to participate in video conferencing worldwide.
The step ahead - from cellular technology to an all IP-based mobile connection - would also herald new realms of functionality for the 'on the go' employees; whereby the enhanced security of IP networking and increased bandwidth together spelling increased efficiency and productivity through use of mobiles alone!
