Going by a recent announcement by the popular video-sharing Web site YouTube, it has worked out an agreement with Time Warner Inc, whereby it will be able to feature, on its site, short clips of television programs from the popular Time Warner cable networks.
A per the terms of the deal - the latest move by the Google Inc-owned YouTube to expand its range of video clips -, the short show clips to be placed on the online video site include those from CNN, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim animated shows; The CW; hit TNT dramas; and Warner Brothers TV productions like "Gossip Girl" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
An earlier agreement between Time Warner and YouTube already makes available promotional clips for HBO shows, like "True Blood," "Hung" and "Entourage," on the YouTube site.
The new deal will help Time Warner expand its material on YouTube, and, in turn, help YouTube swell its range of video clips, and thereby advertise more to perk up its profitability prospects.
Though, at present, most YouTube clips are uploaded by users, marketers hesitate to advertise alongside the user-generated content, fearing the clips may either look amateurish or feature inapt subject matter.
Talking about the deal, Jordan Hoffner - YouTube's Director of partnerships - remarked that Time Warner's portfolio "lends itself well to short-form clips. The important thing is to get them on the platform."
