Labors unions have joined the ongoing boycott against the Whole Foods Market (WFM). It is causing a lot of anger among shoppers as the rallies continue across the country accompanied with other disdainful acts.
The boycott was fueled by the remarks made by John Mackey, CEO of WFM, criticizing president Barack Obama's health care plan.
Whole foods Has four chains in New Mexico. The CEO penned a column in the Wall Street Journal disagreeing with the push for a government-run health system that would operate along the private providers.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union and CtW Investment Group are a part of the botcott effort and demand Mackey to be ousted as the CEO of the food chain. This organistaion is an arm of several unions including the Service Employees international Union.
The boycott group also wants the Bravo cable network, owned by NBC Universal-General Electric, to drop Whole Foods as the sponsor of one of its popular show.
The boycott will see its success if Mackey resigns. It's uncertain how possible that could be since he was the store's co-founder, but if sales at Whole Foods Markets decline dramatically enough, the company's board of directors may look into taking some sort of action against Mackey to ease the public anger.
