Reportedly, on the evening of 11th November, Paula Goodspeed, 30, a Paula Abdul fan and former Idol auditioner, was found dead in her car, just a few houses down from Abdul's Sherman Oaks, CA home. Bearing license plate number - ABL LV, her car also had Abdul's photo hanging from its rear view mirror.
Confirming the news, Paula Abdul said Goodspeed had made a previous suicide attempt by overdosing on pills outside Abdul's home, while the latter was in New York. However, Goodspeed was given resuscitation, taken to hospital and survived. This time round, she wasn't so lucky.
According to Los Angeles Police, Goodspeed was a frequent visitor to Abdul's house, never directly harassing Abdul, though she caused enough disturbance for the police to be notified.
'She has been a stalker / fan for 17-years,' says Abdul. 'But, it wasn't until American Idol that she ever knew how to get to me. Prior to that, it was always through a fan club.'
Not at home at the time of Goodspeed's suicide, Abdul, who was at Kodak Theatre doing Hollywood Week for American Idol, was only told by the crew after finishing taping the show. However, throughout Abdul says she had a premonition something was going on. Since, Abdul has put up her house for sale, with the 11th November incident has played a big part in her decision.
Unable to sleep there, she has been staying in different homes and hotels.
Abdul calls the entire incident '…very tragic and very upsetting… devastating to hear'.
Not the first of Abdul obsessed fans, Paula talks of 'this gentleman was writing letters everyday from prison saying he was getting out in 120-days, then 119-days, all the way down to he's getting out and he's coming to get my mom and I.' Lucky for her, Abdul was touring in Canada and when she got back to Washington, he threatened the President, causing him to be jailed for life.
A busy time for Paula, she says after her accessories launch and the new season of American Idol, she is going on a vacation, after which she will look for a new home.
