Sony has unveiled PlayStation Firmware 3.0, in a move that will make the BBC iPlayer available to thousands of new households in Britain.

The unveiled software update, which comes with several new features, was announced by the company at GamesCom.

Users will have the option to select a free or premium avatar icon from the binding 3.0 update.

It will also feature smash hit movies from Sony Pictures.

Customers will get access to a 'What's New' column introducing newest PSN updates plus Internet links and a choice for the BBC iPlayer.

Users can now connect the PS3 to a BRAVIA TV as the company has provided the console with BRAVIA Sync.

Apart from the above mentioned features, PS Firmware 3.0 will provide improved navigation and dynamic wallpapers.
