Google Search Ads Now on iPhone, T-Mobile G1

The search engine giant Google announced on Monday that AdWords clients now have the option of having their ads show up on the results pages of the iPhone and T-Mobile G1, weeks after Google optimized its search results for the iPhone.

With this new option, Google has solved the challenge of putting search ads on cumbersome, smaller third screens, as these fill browser "ads can point to desktop landing pages, so you don't need to create mobile landing pages or ads in mobile formats."

Alexandra Kenin, product marketing manager for the Mobile Ads team, said: "One of the major benefits of platform targeting is that advertisers can now show their desktop ads on mobile devices and direct users to their desktop Web sites." However, if they do not wish to show their desktop ads on mobile phones, they can opt out. Kenin also added that clients running only mobile ads will not be affected. Those clients who have mobile landing pages can still create mobile ads by clicking on this mobile ad links within one of Google's ad groups.

Google will extend this capability to all HTML-enabled phones as they are introduced. To target ads for G1 and iPhone, AdWords clients can go to their campaign settings tab in their AdWords account, and select 'iPhones and other mobile devices with full internet browsers' in the 'Device Platform' option under 'Networks and Bidding.'

Without doubt, showing ads on the G1 and iPhone also has additional advantages for advertisers. Users perform a lot of searches on these devices, and more searches are likely to come up during the holiday season. Last Christmas, the iPhone drove more traffic to Google. com worldwide than any other mobile platform.
