In a slew of additional charges imposed by the utilitarian airline Ryanair, the cost of checking in a bag will be increased by as much as 50 percent, October onwards! While the cost of checking a bag in at the airport would rise from £20 to £30; that of checking it online will increase from £10 to £15; and checking in of a second bag would go up from £35 to £70.

However, the airline has also specified that passengers would be allowed to carry up two bags of 15kg each, before the imposition of the additional bags' charge of £15 per kg. The airline will also increase the charge of printing out a boarding pass at the airport by £40.

The proposed rise in costs of baggage probably comes in as a part of Ryanair's attempt to get people to travel with no hold luggage - more so as 70 percent of the airline's passengers already fly with hand luggage only, which is free of charge.

In a statement, Ryanair said: "All passengers can avoid these optional checked in baggage fees by traveling with carry on baggage only."

Nonetheless, the planned increase in baggage charges by Ryanair will not only add notably to the cost of a family holiday, but also become an unattractive proposition for skiers and snowboarders who tend to carry bags of clothing and equipment!
