To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage in September 1609, a week-long joint American-Dutch celebration, NY400, will include the sailing of an international fleet of ships into the New York Harbor on Tuesday. The fleet will also include a 100-foot replica of the 'Halve Maen' or Half Moon - the Dutch vessel of 20- member crew led by the English explorer Hudson!
The fleet, including NATO ships, Dutch frigates and Flying Dutchman racers, would expectedly pass under the Verrazano Bridge at 8 a. m. on Tuesday, and move further up the Hudson.
In a special ceremony at 9 a. m., on the flight deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg would welcome Prince Willem-Alexander of Orange and Princess Máxima of The Netherlands. In close proximity, a 21-gun salute will be fired by the Dutch naval frigate Tromp.
The ceremony will set rolling a week of wide-ranging activities, especially scheduled as part of the NY400 celebrations. These activities would include Flying Dutchman sailing races, free bicycle rentals, dance parties and an exhibition of conventional Dutch canal houses at "New Amsterdam Village" in Manhattan's Bowling Green.
About the diverse activities, Dutch Cabinet Minister Frans Timmermans said: "We want to show New York what we have to offer in terms of culture, economy and financial system!"
