A former Yahoo Inc. executive Brad Garlinghouse was on Tuesday appointed by AOL Inc, the Internet unit of Time Warner Inc, as the president of its Web and mobile communications group.
Prior to this, Garlinghouse worked as an advisor at venture capital firm Silver Lake Partners. Under his new job, he will also perform the role of heading AOL's Silicon Valley operations from its Mountain View, California, campus. Apart from this, he will also be the West coast lead for AOL Ventures, the company's venture capital arm headed by Jon Brod.
Approximately six years were spent by Garlinghouse at Yahoo, before joining Silver Lake. At Yahoo, he monitored the Internet Company's communications and community products.
The new group for Garlinghouse, who will report directly to AOL chief executive Tim Armstrong, includes AOL's e-mail, instant messaging and mobile communications.
"The former Yahoo executive is the latest senior addition by Armstrong as he builds a management team ahead of AOL's spin-off as an independent company later this year," said a source.
AOL appointed ex-Time Warner Cable executive Arthur Minson as its chief financial officer last month.
