During the raids at 14 medical marijuana dispensaries in San Diego County, 31 people were arrested effectively shutting down the storefronts, as per the authorities. After a five month state and federal undercover operation targeting people illegally selling the drug at the medical marijuana collaboratives, the raid was the concluding action.

None of the patients were arrested in the undercover operation.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said that none of the legitimate medical marijuana patients or their caregivers were to be a part of this investigation,

He said that out of the all the arrested people, two people will be prosecuted in the federal court while the rest of them in the state court.

Cash more than $70,000 was seized during the raids as per Dumanis, who informed that more than $700,000 worth of marijuana was sold over the last six months only at one location in the city of San Diego.

San Diego police Chief William Lansdowne told that people who need marijuana for medical purposes can grow up to 24 plants or get 48 plants grown by their caregivers. Patients need to have a valid prescription from a physician for the use of marijuana to treat their ailments.

After San Diego County's attempt went in vain to overturn the state's 1996 medical marijuana law, the number of marijuana dispensaries have gone up.
