Museum to display images, videos and stories of 9/11 attacks; appeals for contributions

9/11 attacks

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum Thursday launched a Web site that displays a collection of public reported accounts of the World Trade Center (WTC) tragedy of September 11, 2001; and has appealed to people all over the world to contribute more 9/11 stories.

The newly-launched site - http://makehistory.national911memorial.org - features public views of the terrorist attacks in the form of amateur videos, images and stories put together by the foundation constructing the memorial.

Among the images are pictures of planes piercing the WTC towers; people jumping for life; the spindly portico of the WTC; firefighters slogging in the dust-covered streets; half-open offices; staircases strewn with paper; and ---- human remains.

The foundation has also obtained a comprehensive 500 hours of video archives - assembled by a private team of filmmakers, CameraPlanet - comprising professional and amateur videos from the 9/11 day and its repercussions.

Noting that the WTC attack was one of the most recorded events in history, Alice Greenwald, director of the planned museum, remarked: "They say that 9/11 was the most digitally documented event of all time. We're asking people everywhere to help us tell the story."

Keeping the 'sensitivity' element of the reported accounts in mind, the organizers intend warning the visitors beforehand, thus leaving them with the choice of deciding whether or not to view the heart-rending images.
