Green tea and berry juice can cut heart disease risk

Green tea has been recommended by various experts as a natural boost to health and treatment for number of aliments like headache, depression due to its antioxidant properties.

Recent study has shown that regular intake of green tea can reduce the risk of heart disease and death due to it. Researchers from University of Montpellier, France, University of Parma, Italy, and University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, reached at the findings after analyzing data collected from 60 hamsters.

Research team concluded that green and black tea and raspberry, strawberry and bilberry juices can reduce the risk of heart disease by preventing building up of the fatty deposits in arteries.

In the study 60 hamsters were fed a high-fat diet over 12 weeks. The study subjects were divided into two groups. The first group was given only high-fat diet while other was given additional drinks along with it. The quantity of the juice or tea given to animals was equivalent to eating of 120g of raspberries or drinking a glass of juice or mug of tea a day by human beings.

It was found that there was reduction unto 96 percent in fatty build-ups of mice fed juice or tea along with high-fat food.

Professor Alan Crozier, from the University of Glasgow, said: "If you feed them the high-fat diet and a juice or tea, then there is a reduction in the fatty deposits, particularly so with the raspberry juice and green tea. But the others were very effective as well."
