Along with lowering the price of the original 8GB iPod Touch this week, Apple also introduced two new pricier models, with boast 32 and 64GB of memory respectively - and a camera is apparently forthcoming too!
According to the hardware experts of iFixit, a teardown of the newly-updated iPod Touch - which is quite akin to the iPhone; however, sans the 3G cellular radio - reveals a new Broadcom chip that supports the recently-approved high-throughput 802.11n standard technology, though the device does not use it as yet.
In addition, there is also noticeable scope for a forthcoming camera near the top of the device!
Noting that the chip in the 32GB iPod Touch, and most probably in the 64GB model too, is the last December-announced Broadcom BCM4329, iFixit experts said that inclusion of the chip in the updated iPod Touch is a "big deal" - more so since it is the first Broadcom 11n product designed for mobile devices, and also because is even more recent that the Broadcom BCM4325 chip used in iPhone 3GS.
Elaborating further iFixit experts said that the 4329 chip is capable of going up to the faster 802.11n, as compared to the 4325 chip which is only capable of 802.11b/g; and a single 4329 Wi-Fi chip combines 802.11n with 802.11abg, Bluetooth, and FM radio; and can run both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
