In the Saturday night Major League Soccer (MLS) game at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, the Kansas City Wizards defeated the New York Red Bulls, 1-0; marking the City Wizards' second win in their last ten matches!
Both the teams, which are out of the playoff race, are adjusting to new interim coaches, and are responding well to the change.
The solitary goal of the match was scored in the tenth minute by the Wizards' forward Josh Wolff. It was Ernst Oebster's aimless kick of the ball, high near the half line, that was headed by Jorge Rojas only to find Claudio Lopez, who drove to the Red Bulls box, rebounded it to Wolff, who one-timed it straight into the net from 40 yards out!
The first half saw City Wizards counterattacking opportunities, but not being able to score a second goal. In the second half, the Red Bulls came out with visibly greater energy and even creating several half-chances in the first few minutes. However, they failed to materialize the chances, thereby remaining goalless in the match.
The loss to City Wizards brought to an end the two-game winning streak for the NY Red Bulls (4-17-4), who are at the bottom of the table in MLS. Meanwhile, City Wizards (7-11-6) will try to consolidate the win at its forthcoming encounter with FC Dallas.
