Nearly 10,000 holidaymakers yet to receive refunds

Nearly 10,000 holidaymakers, whose holidays were spoilt by the collapse of the airline XL, have not received their refunds yet as they could not apply for the compensation correctly.

Almost 85,000 holidaymakers were left stranded abroad when XL Leisure Group, which owns XL Airways, went into administration last September.

As per the figures from the Civil Aviation Authority, 55,000 of the passengers have been paid £37.5 million in refunds.

The CAA said, "We appreciate the inconvenience experienced by those claimants that have not yet received a refund. We do apologise for the continuing delay in making settlements."

But, the CAA added that many of those have been left in limbo because they filled forms incorrectly.

XL Airways operates from a number of British airports including Gatwick, Glasgow and Manchester.
