Santa Clara-based Intel pocketed 80.6 per cent of the global microprocessor revenue in the second quarter of the current year, highest in the last four years.
This is the largest market share captured by Intel since its 82.4 per cent market share in 2005. Intel had enjoyed 79.2 per cent of the market share during the same period a year ago.
As per market researcher iSuppli, 1 per cent growth recorded by the PC market during the second quarter assisted boosted Intel's revenue. But company's PC shipments were down year over year.
Michael Wilkins of iSuppli said, "Intel benefited as the global PC market took a small first step toward recovery in the second quarter, with global shipments rising by 1 percent from the first quarter."
AMD, Intel's main competitor witnessed a fall in revenue from 12.8 per cent in the first quarter to 11.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2009.
