World Trade Organization

On Tuesday, China's Commerce Ministry described the concern of U. S. for 'only U. S. jobs' as unfair. The recent development is the most recent issue raised after the trade dispute on tires erupted between the two countries.

Commerce Ministry spokesman Yao Jian, said: "If the U. S. only considers its 5,000 workers ... and doesn't consider China's employment ... this, indeed, lacks fairness."

Apart from this, other countries were also warned by Mr. Yao against following the U. S. on imposing tire duties. He also said that Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming would again express his viewpoints against protectionism at the Group of 20 summit next week.

Friday, the U. S. declared that for the next three years, it will apply duties of between 25% and 35% on imports of tires from China. While on Monday, China held talks the U. S. at the World Trade Organization, Beijing reverted back by restricting some U. S. imports.

It was after the complaint by the United Steelworkers, that a flood of cheap Chinese tires in recent years had cost more than 5,000 union jobs that, the ITC's finding appeared.

Meanwhile, official figures have revealed a rise in foreign investment in China for the first time in 11 months. The commerce ministry informed that during August, the amount increased by $7.5bn (£4.5bn), up 7% from the same period a year ago.

It should be noted that the global recession had led to a fall in the figures for the previous 10 months, dropping 35.7% in July.
