A new survey confirmed the rise in the employer-sponsored health insurance. The family coverage amount is now $13,375 out of which the employers are paying $9,860 and the employees paying $3,515.
The Kaiser Family Foundation along with the Health Research & Educational Trust released the 2009 Employer Health Benefits Survey which revealed that family premiums have risen by 5 percent this year.
Premiums have gone up 131 percent, which is far more higher than the wages of the workers which has gone up only 38 percent, or inflation, up 28 percent.
The smaller the firm the lesser the chances of it offering a health insurance. 60 percent firms offered health benefits to workers in 2009. 46 percent of the small scale employers are offering health insurance with as less as 3-9 employees..
21 percent firms reported that during the economic recession they reduced the scope of health benefits or increased the cost sharing with the consumers. A large number of workers who are covered by their employers are facing high deductibles in their plans which is in addition to the already huge contribution for their premiums.
This survey is in its 11th year and is now a joint project of the non-profit Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust, which is affiliated to American Hospital association.
