Chrysler switching over to digital user-manuals for some of its 2010 models

Pioneering the move from the age-old paper manuals for vehicles to new digital owners' guides, Chrysler Group LLC will introduce digital manuals for its 2010 model Chrysler, Jeep, and, Dodge vehicles.

Chrysler's intended move of switching over to digital user manuals for vehicle owners would be a truly notable one - the saving of 4 pounds of paper per vehicle will amount to a yearly saving of 930 tons of paper, which is the equivalent of 20,000 trees.

The present-day luxury sedans or SUVs come with a handful of manuals - including a vehicle manual, a navigation manual, and safety systems manual; and, for hybrids, there is an additional manual explaining the functioning of the powertrain. Most of these manuals are hardly, if ever, referenced by the vehicle owners.

Commenting on the proposed digital manuals, Chryler noted in a press release: "The DVD includes the owners' manual, vehicle and tire warranty information, navigation and entertainment system guides, as well as information on 24-hour towing assistance."

Chrysler added: "Video tutorials also are available for commonly used features, such as operating the video entertainment system and setting electronic speed control. In addition, owners may search by topic rather than sifting through a 500-page book."

However, those vehicle owners who cannot do without the conventional paper manual can request for it by contacting their dealer or calling customer service.
