With the help from Google Sync for iPhone platform, Symbain and Windows Mobile-based devices, Push Mail support has recently been brought by Google and added to its Gmail servicing.
With the aim of coordinating Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar with S60 devices, Windows Mobile and iPhone, Google had launched Google Sync earlier this year. Google should be credited for bringing Push Gmail to the iPhone platform. It is also important to note that iPhone or iPod Touch require having iPhone OS 3.0 version or higher running on the device.
Google Sync is a service that permits users to synchronize their Google Contacts, Gmail and Calendar to mobile devices using Google Account and users can get Gmail messages pushed directly to iPhone, iPod Touch or Windows Mobile phones, simply by setting up Google Sync the respective devices.
Two things should be kept in mind before setting up Google sync. The first is that Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Protocol is used by Google Sync for setting up Google Sync on the device; and the other is that only one profile is supported by ActiveSync. This means that if a user has only one account activated on Microsoft Exchange on his phone, he can’t add the second one.
The users also need to backup the existing data as there is a possibility for it to get wiped away. Furthermore, enabling Push notifications on iPhone may reduce its battery life as Push technology is known for being power-intensive.
