US paper companies, union files trade case against China

The United Steelworkers union and three paper companies have filed a new case against the imports of Chinese paper, alleging dumping.

The case regarding paper blamed China of dumping paper in US by improperly subsidizing exports of paper that have resulted into several job cuts in the US paper industry.

It is worth mentioning here that few days back America imposed extra 35 per cent tariff on imports of tires from China.

US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao are attending a summit of G20 leaders in Pittsburgh.

Steelworkers union’s president, Leo Gerard, said, “Neither the companies nor the union will tolerate being obliterated without asking our government to investigate and enforce the rules of fair trade.”

Apart from United Steelworkers, three paper producers viz. NewPage Corp of Miamisburg, Ohio; Sappi Fine Paper North America of Boston, Massachusetts and Appleton Coated LLC of Kimberly, Wisconsin have joined forces against Chinese paper imports.
