McNeil, J&J’s unit recalls children’s Tylenol

Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil unit is recalling 57 lots of children’s and infant’s liquid Tylenol products due to a possible bacterial contamination.

The products being recalled were produced in the months of April-June and have two dozen different varieties.

J&J informed that it has contacted the retailers and wholesalers about the recall. One of the inactive ingredient did not meet internal testing needs and the bacteria could not be detected in a small portion of the raw material which was eventually unused in the final product.

The company also confirmed that it could not find any bacteria in the finished product and that the possibility of any severe infection is very rare. Nevertheless it has decided to remove the entire lot of the drug from the market after consulting the Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers with questions can call the consumer call center at McNeil on 1-800-962-5357. The lot number can be located on the bottom of each box and on the sticker surrounding the bottle.

J&J said, "It was decided, as a precaution, to recall all products that utilized any of the raw material manufactured at the same time as the raw material that tested positive for the bacteria".
