The Palm WebOS smartphone platform has received an update - WebOS 1.2, which is the new version of the Palm Pre's system software. The new features that the update will add to the Pre handset include the file-downloading and image-sharing capability via the smartphone's browser, as well as the ability to sync information from a LinkedIn profile.

The webOS 1.2 also boasts the ability to copy text and images on web pages, and provides support for paying for third-party software on the on-device App Catalog. In addition, for business users in particular, the update improves support for Exchange security policies.

Moreover, along with adding the ability to cut and paste e-mails and web pages, the webOS 1.2 update also includes the capability pertaining to dialing phone numbers straight from the calendar application of the Pre handset. Further, with the updated email software, users would be able to filter their emails and directly play WAV files sent to them.

The update, which also enables users to download music via Wi-Fi and WAN through the Amazon online music store; however, will not allow the Pre owners to sync their devices with Apple's iTunes software!

Palm is already attempting to press on the update to the Palm Pre users; even though the company is yet to specify whether or not a manual download of the update will be available.
