The new CDC report says that only 14% of U. S. adults and 9.5% U. S. teens meet the government’s goals for eating enough fruits and vegetables.

As per the key goals, two servings of fruits and three servings of vegetables should be eaten daily. A state wise list was released to show the statistics of how scarcely the goals are being met.

The report by CDC suggested that fewer than 10 percent of US high school students were getting recommended daily amounts of fruits and vegetables.

Only 13 percent of the teens are consuming three helpings of vegetables everyday. The federal nutrition goals which are set for 2010 demand that at least 75 percent of Americans consume two servings of fruit each day and a minimum of 50 percent to eat three vegetable servings daily.

Heidi Blanck, who worked on the State Indicator Report on Fruits and Vegetables, in 2009 with the CDC said, "This is a call for states, communities, schools and families to support increased fruit and vegetable consumption".

Fruits and vegetables are vital for optimal child growth, weight management and chronic disease prevention, as per the CDC.

The CDC determined the fruit and vegetable consumption on a national and state level and said that a combined effort from every American can increase the number of citizens who live healthier lives.
